Innovative Energy Storage Solutions: Hanxiang’s Power Island Officially Launched

On March 18, Hanxiang Aerospace Industrial Co., Ltd. held an inauguration ceremony for its Power Island demonstration project at the Shui Nan plant in Taichung. The event was attended by partners from various sectors, including industry, government, and academia. Among the attendees were Hsiao Chun-Yu, Director of Taichung Power Supply, Yan Jin-Yi, Director of Taichung Business Unit, Liu Chi-Hsiao, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Hu Kai-Hong, Chairman of Hanxiang, Hsu Mao-Hsin, Director of the Central Science Park Administration, Ma Wan-Chun, General Manager of Hanxiang, and Lai Yong-Hsiang, Executive Director of the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre.

Hanxiang has officially launched the 2 MW Wind-Solar Energy Storage Power Island, showcasing their innovative energy storage technology. This project represents Hanxiang’s latest achievement in integrating renewable energy with energy storage technology based on aerospace technology. The newly developed Power Island combines exclusive aerospace-grade electronic control technology and systems to commercialize the product. The completed Power Island functions as a compact, independent power system that can be deployed in urban communities, industrial parks, and disaster recovery scenarios, making it a comprehensive energy solution.

Chairman Hu expressed confidence in the project, stating, “This is the energy storage brand that Hanxiang is building.” He emphasized its broad applications for large energy consumers in Taiwan, which will help realize the goal of reducing carbon emissions progressively. The 2 MW Wind-Solar Energy Storage Power Island is a response to government regulations for large electricity consumers, which include guidelines on energy usage and requirements to increase the proportion of green energy.

Hanxiang’s system converts wind and solar energy into electricity for storage, validating the reliability of the products within the demonstration site, thereby laying the groundwork for future expansion. The goal is to establish a Power Island that meets the entire energy demand of the company by this year, with plans to promote it to large electricity consumers across Taiwan and expand into international markets to advance global green energy development.

Chairman Hu noted that this initiative aligns with the national green energy policy and represents a concrete action towards achieving net-zero transformation, fulfilling corporate social responsibility, and marking an important milestone in Hanxiang’s sustainability journey. General Manager Ma further elaborated on the challenges overcome during the construction process, highlighting the integration of advanced energy storage and intelligent scheduling technologies, alongside collaborations with academic institutions and industry experts to develop a stable and safe energy storage system.

One significant feature of the Power Island is its seamless electricity supply. During peak demand periods, the system automatically transitions to provide power, smoothing the load curve. Furthermore, it can operate independently during outages and revert to normal supply once power is restored, offering large consumers greater flexibility in energy management and more stable electricity quality while also reducing costs.

The transition to net-zero is not only a national policy but also a global trend. Over the past few years, Hanxiang has systematically developed its energy storage business. Starting in 2024, it will incorporate its self-developed Energy Management System (EMS) and Battery Management System (BMS) as core technologies. Currently, the Power Island can achieve smart frequency regulation, real-time backup, and peak shaving applications, adjusting energy output and storage in response to slight changes in grid frequency, all while adhering to international safety standards to maximize the benefits of green energy usage.

With the surge in global demand for renewable energy, energy storage systems have become critical technologies for balancing the grid and maintaining stability. Hanxiang leverages aerospace-grade system integration technology to provide comprehensive, full-lifecycle energy storage solutions, making significant contributions to carbon reduction and sustainability efforts.
