Shangneng Electric has recently been granted a utility model patent for a new invention titled “FPCB Structure for Monitoring the Explosive Valve of Battery Cells“. The patent application number is CN202420362174.1, and it was officially authorized on March 14, 2025.
The abstract of the patent indicates that it pertains to the field of energy storage battery technology. It presents an FPCB structure designed to monitor the explosive valve of battery cells, which includes an FPCB circuit board and nickel strips connected to it. The nickel strips are arranged in a strip-like form and are connected at both ends to the FPCB circuit board. The FPCB circuit board is positioned above the battery cell module, with the nickel strips located above the module. A thinning design has been implemented, where the thinned section connects with the battery cell unit’s terminal ears.
Multiple thinning holes are arranged at the thinned position of the nickel strips, creating hollow perforations that form a reduced connection part of the nickel strip. This connection part can exist in either a safe state or a blown fuse state. In the safe state, the output current of the battery cell unit passes through the nickel strip. Conversely, when in the blown fuse state, the output current will fuse the reduced connection part, leading to its disconnection. This innovation allows for effective monitoring of the explosive valve’s state, significantly enhancing the safety and reliability of energy storage batteries.
Since the beginning of this year, Shangneng Electric has secured a total of four new patent grants, which marks a 20% decrease compared to the same period last year. According to the company’s mid-year financial report for 2024, it invested 107 million yuan in research and development during the first half of 2024, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 22.1%.
