Megawatt Flash Charging: BYD Initiates a Charging Revolution for New Energy Vehicles
March 21, 2025 marks a milestone in the global new energy vehicle industry. BYD has officially launched the world’s first megawatt (1000kW) all-liquid-cooled supercharging technology platform, named “Flash Charge,” at its headquarters in Shenzhen. This breakthrough technology increases the charging power for new energy vehicles from the mainstream 200kW to an unprecedented fivefold level. This innovation not only redefines our understanding of charging speed but also signals a profound revolution in energy replenishment for the new energy vehicle sector.
Breaking Physical Limits: A Historic Leap in Charging Technology
Throughout the development of new energy vehicles, “charging anxiety” has consistently been a critical challenge for the industry. Over the past decade, global charging technology has evolved from 60kW DC fast charging to 350kW supercharging, yet it has struggled to overcome the physical barrier of “charging for 10 minutes to gain 300 kilometers of range.” BYD’s newly released megawatt flash charging technology achieves this breakthrough through a revolutionary all-liquid cooling system design, which elevates the charging voltage to 1000V and the current intensity to over 1000A, delivering systemic advancements in thermal management, material science, and power electronics.
The innovative six-dimensional cooling structure developed by the technical team utilizes aerospace-grade phase change cooling materials, successfully increasing the power density of the charging station to 3.2 times that of traditional devices. At the battery end, BYD’s unique “blade battery” features a honeycomb-shaped three-dimensional heat dissipation channel design, paired with an intelligent BMS system, enabling a continuous ultra-fast charging capability of 10C for the first time.
