The 2025 Smart City Expo in Taiwan, themed “A New Era of Intelligence, A Sustainable Future with Green Energy,” kicked off on March 18 in Taipei. The event showcased 12 innovative applications across three major domains: Smart Transportation, Smart Home, and Sustainable Green Energy/Smart AI Applications. Under the leadership of the “Taiwan Mobility” strategy, Taiwan Mobile unveiled its “Next-Generation Electric Vehicle Entertainment Experience,” which integrates connectivity, content, and charging solutions. This platform features MyVideo, Taiwan’s first OTT video service for vehicles, transforming cars into mobile entertainment hubs, allowing users to “enjoy entertainment while charging.”
Additionally, Taiwan Mobile introduced its “Home Energy Storage Service,” enabling households to manage their electricity usage flexibly, peak shaving, and cost-saving. This service also offers businesses a “Smart Energy Management Solution” that combines telecom networks with energy storage technology, potentially saving nearly 20% on electricity costs annually.
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim visited the expo to inspect the latest developments in Taiwan’s smart technology. She toured the Taiwan Mobile booth, accompanied by key executives, and learned about how 5G, AI, and energy management technologies connect the three focal areas to create smarter and more sustainable cities. During her visit, she expressed appreciation for Taiwan Mobile’s efforts in the fields of vehicle networking, green energy sustainability, and AI technological innovation.
In collaboration with the Tourism Bureau, Taiwan Mobile’s MyMoji presented a 3D virtual avatar application at booth R106 on the 4th floor of the Nangang Exhibition Center, featuring O-熊 (O-Bear) stickers in multiple languages. Attendees could experience 3D modeling and create up to eight complimentary LINE/GIF stickers featuring O-Bear.
According to Lin Dong-min, Business Director of Taiwan Mobile’s personal user division, research from Research Nester predicts that the global electric vehicle market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 15.3%. This trend indicates that electric vehicles are becoming the future mainstream in transportation, further promoting green energy and smart city development. Lin emphasized that the evolution of the vehicle networking ecosystem driven by 5G technology enhances entertainment and safety, creating vast opportunities for hardware and data application services to improve efficiency in daily life.
At the expo, Taiwan Mobile collaborated with Luxgen to showcase the next-generation electric vehicle entertainment experience using the new all-electric SUV, n⁷. This experience integrates connectivity, content, and charging capabilities, powered by MyVideo, making it Taiwan’s first vehicle infotainment OTT platform.
Lin reaffirmed Taiwan Mobile’s commitment to exploring the limitless possibilities of the electric vehicle networking ecosystem under the motto “Open Possible,” aiming to enhance efficiency and experiences in transportation.
In the face of challenges posed by the growing demand for electricity in the AI era, 朱曉幸, Business Director of Taiwan Mobile’s enterprise services, noted that global corporate spending on AI is projected to exceed NT$16.4 trillion by 2027. The International Energy Agency (IEA) also forecasts that by 2035, global electricity demand will increase by 6%, equivalent to an additional 2,200 TWh, driven primarily by data centers and AI technologies. To address these challenges, Taiwan Mobile has launched various solutions, including a “Smart Energy Management Solution,” a “Sustainable Green IDC Cloud Data Center,” and a “Smart Building Solution,” in line with global net-zero carbon trends.
For the Smart Transportation sector, Taiwan Mobile’s “Next-Generation Electric Vehicle Entertainment Experience” seeks to explore various possibilities for vehicle networking services, connecting to MyCharge services for seamless charging experiences. The platform also integrates high-quality entertainment content from KKBOX and MyVideo, providing personalized viewing experiences in electric vehicles.
Furthermore, Taiwan Mobile introduced the MyCharge one-stop electric vehicle charging service and showcased a 22kW certified AC charging station, developed in exclusive collaboration with Chino Technology, ensuring efficient, safe, and user-friendly charging environments. The MyCharge team focuses on user experience, offering quick activation through mobile scanning and optimizing charging steps, alongside 24-hour cloud monitoring and customer service.
Partnering with USPACE, Asia’s largest smart parking management platform, and WeMo Scooter, Taiwan Mobile is building a comprehensive smart mobility ecosystem. USPACE provides over 90,000 smart parking spaces and an app for seamless parking, charging, and payment. MyCharge has also collaborated with USPACE to create a new electric vehicle experience of “Smart Parking and Seamless Charging.” UDRIVE, the leading electric vehicle rental brand in Taiwan, offers a fleet of over 140 electric cars, including all Tesla models, with delivery and training services. WeMo, the largest shared electric scooter brand in Asia, continues to expand its fleet and has launched a rental service at 17 locations across Taiwan’s rail stations.
In the Smart Home sector, Taiwan Mobile has become the first telecom provider in Taiwan to support the international smart home standard, the Matter protocol. Visitors at the expo can experience voice-controlled smart home systems through Apple and Google, easily switching between smart scenarios for a seamless technology and entertainment experience. Taiwan Mobile also offers “Smart Home” consulting services to tailor solutions for users, including installation, training, and after-sales support, ensuring a convenient and comfortable smart living environment.
The Smart Energy Solutions aim to help households manage electricity more efficiently, integrating telecommunications technology, energy storage equipment, and MyCharge electric vehicle charging services. This allows homes to adjust electricity usage according to time-based rates, storing energy during off-peak hours and using it during peak times, effectively reducing costs and enhancing energy efficiency.
In collaboration with 精誠資訊, Taiwan Mobile has launched a “Smart Building Solution,” which integrates a paperless check-in system, facial recognition access control, smart security management, and intelligent office equipment to enhance corporate security and efficiency. By implementing AI facial recognition technology, the traditional card system is replaced, significantly reducing plastic card use. The system also integrates smart surveillance, utilizing AI for real-time abnormal behavior detection and reporting, enhancing building security while reducing labor costs and human error.
Through its “Smart Energy Management Solution,” Taiwan Mobile combines its telecom network with energy storage technology to provide businesses with solutions to reduce electricity costs and enhance power stability. This solution can save nearly 20% on electricity for chain stores, large retailers, office buildings, and factories, while also minimizing the risk of power outages and automating energy usage management to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Finally, Taiwan Mobile’s “Sustainable Green IDC Cloud Data Center” is the first internationally certified green data center in East Asia, achieving 100% renewable energy usage by 2024 and meeting the RE100 target. This facility operates with high energy efficiency, stable power supply, and round-the-clock monitoring, offering reliable smart green data center services that can reduce carbon emissions by approximately 24,930 tons annually.
