Industry’s Highest Rating! JA Solar’s Two Major Bases Awarded SSI “Silver Medal” Certification

On March 24, 2025, JA Solar achieved a significant milestone in sustainable development as its manufacturing bases in Fengxian and Yangzhou received the prestigious “Silver Medal” certification from the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI). This certification represents the highest rating awarded by SSI in the photovoltaic industry, highlighting JA Solar’s exemplary practices in environmental, social, and corporate governance, establishing its position as a benchmark in the global photovoltaic sector.

Unlike other certification bodies, SSI is the first initiative focused on sustainability and traceability in the photovoltaic supply chain. Founded by SolarPower Europe and Solar Energy UK, SSI aims to unite manufacturers, developers, installers, and purchasers within the global photovoltaic value chain to promote responsible production, procurement, and management of photovoltaic materials, making it highly influential.

Due to SSI’s authoritative background, a significant majority of key developers and suppliers in the global photovoltaic industry have joined the organization. The member companies play a crucial role in global market share for project scale and photovoltaic product output. All manufacturing SSI members must complete a rigorous on-site assessment by an SSI-approved independent assessment body (AB) within 12 months. Currently, only seven assessment institutions are qualified.

From the inception of SSI, JA Solar has been actively involved in the development of the organization’s sustainability standards. Its manufacturing bases in Baotou, Ningjin, and Yiwu served as pilot sites during the first round of sustainability capability assessments, providing valuable examples for implementing relevant standards. In October 2024, the Baotou manufacturing base was again chosen as a pilot site for the latest SSI standards.

The recent receipt of the SSI “Silver Medal” certification is a testament to JA Solar’s ability to translate its experience in standard development into effective management practices. In recent years, JA Solar’s headquarters and its manufacturing bases have worked collaboratively across numerous departments to optimize various policies, processes, and documents related to biodiversity, carbon emissions, compliance risks, lifecycle circular management, EHS target indicators, and management control procedures. These efforts have continuously enhanced the company’s sustainability levels, ultimately leading to a successful outcome in the SSI on-site audit.
