On March 26, the 2025 International Hydrogen Energy Conference and International Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell Industry Exhibition (referred to as “CIHC2025”) officially opened at the National Convention Center. This event aims to focus on the forefront of the industry and create a platform for global hydrogen energy development, facilitating dialogue and collaboration to support the global energy transition and sustainable development.
The conference is supported by various governmental bodies, including the National Energy Administration and the National Intellectual Property Administration, and is organized by the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance and the China Electricity Council.
During the main forum, key addresses were delivered by prominent figures including Bian Guangqi, Deputy Director of the Energy Conservation and Technology Equipment Department of the National Energy Administration; James George, Deputy Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in China; Pan Guoying, Director of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government; and Yan Guochun, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager of the National Energy Group. Additionally, keynote speeches were made by Guan Yong and Peng Suping, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Zheng Nanfeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with James Walker, head of the Renewable Gases Team at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The conference also launched the 2025 Hydrogen Energy Entrepreneurship Competition. The China Hydrogen Energy Alliance will collaborate with cities such as Beijing, Hong Kong, Ordos, and Yangzhou to conduct three major events focused on technology roadshows, digital simulations, and equipment testing. Furthermore, the conference announced significant collaborative achievements between the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance and organizations such as the 21st Century Agenda Management Center, the Chinese Patent Information Center, and the Chinese Society of Metals. These include studies on the China Hydrogen Technology Development Roadmap, Global Hydrogen Patent Model and Insights, and the Technology Roadmap for Key Materials in the Hydrogen Sector.
Over 1,000 representatives from various sectors, including governmental energy departments, local governments, hydrogen demonstration zones, international hydrogen organizations, embassies, research institutions, universities, industry leaders, and specialized enterprises attended the event.
In addition to the main forum, several specialized meetings were held, including the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance Council, discussions on the Green Hydrogen Production and Storage Innovation Consortium, a seminar on the 15th Five-Year Plan for hydrogen development, an international seminar on Marine Hydrogen Energy Development Technology and Applications, and the annual meeting of the China-IRENA Hydrogen Working Group. These sessions focused on national strategic development directions such as policy guidance, application demonstration, technological innovation, international cooperation, and industry-finance collaboration. The conference released five authoritative reports, including the China Hydrogen Investment and Financing Report and the Outlook for Marine Hydrogen Energy Development, along with over 30 thematic speeches, attracting participation from more than 10 domestic cities and over 20 international organizations.
More than 400 hydrogen and fuel cell companies showcased over 1,000 new technologies, products, and application scenarios at the conference. Notable enterprises like the National Energy Group, Dongfang Electric, State Power Investment, State Grid, China Aerospace, China Shipbuilding, China CNR Corporation, and Shanghai Electric participated, along with representatives from Bosch, Longi Hydrogen, and Sunshine Hydrogen. The event featured themed pavilions highlighting the developmental achievements and innovative practices of leading hydrogen regions such as Beijing, Hong Kong, Ordos, Suzhou, and Yangzhou. This initiative aimed to build a comprehensive platform combining technology displays, urban ecological demonstrations, and collaborative innovation between industry, academia, and research.
During the main forum, the seventh meeting of the first council of the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance approved applications for 58 new member companies. With this, the number of member organizations has surpassed 310, covering 27 provinces and municipalities nationwide.
