International Participation Increases by 17%: 2025 MIECF to Open on March 27, Launching a New Green Platform

The 2025 Macao International Environmental Cooperation Forum and Exhibition (2025 MIECF) is set to take place from March 27 to 29 at the Venetian Macao. As global environmental awareness grows, this exhibition has become a significant international green platform, themed “Innovative Green Development for Beautiful Cities.”

The event is organized by the Macau Special Administrative Region Government, with special support from national bodies including the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. The Pan-Pearl River Delta provincial and regional governments are co-organizers, while the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the Environmental Protection Bureau are the official organizers. This exhibition, now in its fourth year, aligns with the national “dual carbon” goals and important environmental policies of the Macau government, achieving a professional exhibition focused on “carbon neutrality” and marking Macau’s first event to obtain a Green Electricity Certificate.

A press conference was held today (March 25), where representatives from the organizing bodies presented details about the exhibition.

Expanding the Green Platform’s Role

This year’s exhibition spans over 12,000 square meters and features five major exhibition areas that cover themes such as carbon neutrality technology, circular economy, and new energy sources, facilitating the exchange of environmental information and regional cooperation. A significant focus will be on the emerging economy, with the introduction of the “Emerging Economy Project Exhibition Area” and the “Green Future Industry Exhibition Area.” The first day will host the “Launch @ Macau – Project Release and Innovation Matching Event,” inviting numerous new products and projects to showcase and match for business opportunities.

Additionally, over 20 new products and technologies will be showcased during the event, including novel biodegradable materials, “liquid cooling ultra-fast charging” technology, B2 mechanical dogs, and “automatic parking” electric bicycles. Furthermore, one of the supporting organizations, the Green Low-Carbon Industry Association, hosted a launch event for a new energy smart yacht at West Bay Lake today, highlighting the potential of the emerging economy.

The conference will conduct five thematic matching sessions covering emerging projects, international green low-carbon initiatives, public institution environmental connections between Macau and Portugal, green building supply and demand, and comprehensive tourism and leisure enterprise cooperation, providing a platform for exhibitors and buyers from home and abroad to foster more green collaborations.

Keynote Speech and Green Forum

The event has invited Gino Van Begin, Secretary-General of the Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI), as the keynote speaker, addressing the theme “Pioneering Green Innovation to Build Better Cities.” On the following day (March 28), three thematic sessions of the green forum will take place, featuring around 30 environmental experts and scholars from mainland China, Portuguese-speaking countries, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Hong Kong and Macau, focusing on topics such as green transformation, technological innovation, and environmental exchange and cooperation in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, exploring new opportunities for international environmental collaboration.

Leveraging Multiple Resources for Community Benefits

As a vital platform for regional environmental exchange and cooperation, the event collaborates with various resources and works with international sustainable development organizations, as well as environmental associations and enterprises in the Greater Bay Area, to host 12 concurrent activities. During the exhibition, MIECF guests will also participate in community tours to experience Macau’s unique charm as a tourism and exhibition city.

International Participation Increases by Approximately 17%

This year’s exhibition has seen significant improvements in internationalization and professionalism, attracting exhibitors and participants from nearly 40 countries and regions, with international participation increasing by approximately 17% compared to last year. This includes participation from Portuguese-speaking countries such as Portugal, Brazil, and East Timor. Additionally, over 40 well-known listed companies from mainland China and Hong Kong will participate, further enhancing the brand image and market influence of Macau’s international exhibitions. Four “one exhibition, two locations” events will be held during the exhibition, and representatives from Portuguese-speaking countries will visit the Hengqin Cooperation Zone and Zhuhai for business inspections, continuously expanding the attractiveness of international green business opportunities.

Green Public Day and Other Activities to Enhance Community “Green Awareness”

The final day of the event (March 29) will be designated as “Green Public Day,” offering free entry to the public. This initiative aims to inform the public about the latest environmental information and technologies through the MIECF platform, spreading environmental knowledge and fostering a shared vision for a green future. On this day, four free electric shuttle bus routes will be provided to transport attendees from central Macau, the northern district, and Taipa to the venue, encouraging citizens to choose green travel. The event will also organize technical visits, allowing attendees to tour electronic and electrical equipment recycling facilities, as well as the Cotai Ecological Protection Zone.

This year’s exhibition achieved a high material recycling rate of 90%, reflecting a commitment to sustainability. The event will also host the “Environmental Exhibition Booth Award” to actively promote the concept of “source reduction and waste-to-energy,” encouraging participants to explore green innovation solutions and showcasing the community’s efforts in promoting environmental protection and sustainable development.

Guests attending today’s press conference included: Yue Yusheng, Chairman of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute; Ye Kuo Lin, Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau; He Haiming, representative of the 2025 MIECF Project Manager; and Lin Zhongxian, representative of the General Contractor for the 2025 MIECF.
