The Ministry of Energy in Myanmar has urged the public to refrain from panic buying and hoarding fuel. On March 29, the ministry issued a statement regarding fuel purchases and usage, highlighting the importance of avoiding unnecessary accumulation of fuel resources.
This call comes in the aftermath of a strong earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, which caused significant structural damage to several gas stations. Reports indicated that some stations experienced building collapses, damage to underground oil tanks, and failures in the underground pipelines connected to fuel pumps.
Authorities have already initiated repairs at the affected gas stations, with some in Naypyidaw and Mandalay resuming operations. Fortunately, gas stations in the Yangon area were not impacted. The Ministry of Energy reassured the public that there is currently no risk of fuel shortages. In addition to regular fuel distribution, emergency supply measures have been arranged if necessary.
