Ningde Times Achieves Remarkable Battery Safety Milestone at China Electric Vehicle Forum

Ningde

At the 2025 China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Forum on March 29, Gao Huan, the CTO of CATL, stated, “Thanks to rapid advancements in energy density and charging speed, the challenges to the safety and lifespan of power batteries have also increased significantly. CATL is dedicated to enhancing battery safety through various aspects, including the intrinsic safety of battery cells, system design, and manufacturing processes, aiming to establish high safety standards for batteries. Currently, we have successfully reduced the safety failure rate of battery cells to 1 in 100 million, an improvement of three orders of magnitude.

As the industry swiftly transitions into an era of intelligence, we have made ample technical preparations concerning the safety, reliability, and adaptability of power batteries to embrace the arrival of levels L3 and L4.

Gao also suggested that as the model of separating vehicles and batteries evolves and the battery bank ecosystem matures, batteries could potentially become investment products, fostering new business models that unlock greater economic and social value.

Looking ahead, Gao indicated that CATL will continue to iterate on products under its various brands such as Kirin, Shenhung, Xiaoyao, and Tianxing, bringing more surprises to consumers. Additionally, the company is actively launching new products in new scenarios, including marine and low-altitude economies. With the maturation of next-generation technologies, including sodium-ion batteries, M3P, and solid-state batteries, we anticipate unlocking even more applications in the future.
