Huawei Unveils Revolutionary New Charging Technology for Electric Vehicles

Huawei

Huawei has announced the launch of another groundbreaking product!

On March 31, Huawei Digital Energy officially revealed that its new megawatt fast charging product will be launched on April 22. According to Hou Jinlong, a director at Huawei and president of Huawei Digital Energy, at the 2025 China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Conference, the megawatt charging products can achieve a maximum charging current of 2400 amperes and a maximum power output of 1.5 megawatts. This means that electric vehicles using this charging equipment can gain 20 kilowatt-hours of charge per minute, allowing a full charge in just 15 minutes. This significant increase in charging speed is expected to greatly alleviate electric vehicle users’ “range anxiety,” making the experience of using electric vehicles much closer to that of traditional fuel-powered cars.

The megawatt supercharging technology from Huawei is based on three key innovations:

  • Self-developed liquid cooling system: This system can stably maintain the substantial current of 2400A, ensuring the stability and safety of the charging equipment during high-power operation.
  • Smart power distribution module: This module allows for dynamic adjustment, intelligently distributing charging power according to the actual needs of the vehicle, thereby enhancing charging efficiency.
  • New silicon carbide materials: These materials significantly improve energy conversion efficiency, increasing the energy density of the charging piles to three times that of traditional equipment.

In addition to its application in passenger vehicles, Huawei plans to extend this supercharging technology to commercial vehicles. Hou Jinlong stated that Huawei aims to launch over 30 heavy-duty truck models based on 4C supercharging technology by 2025. These models will be the first to be compatible with the new megawatt charging piles, establishing a new energy transportation network in high-frequency operation scenarios such as ports and mining areas. This initiative is expected to accelerate the electrification transformation in the heavy-duty transportation sector, propelling the energy revolution of “charging faster than refueling” into a substantive phase.

The release of Huawei’s supercharging technology is anticipated to have a profound impact on the entire electric vehicle industry. On one hand, it promises to provide consumers with a more convenient and efficient charging experience, further enhancing the market competitiveness of electric vehicles. On the other hand, Huawei plans to collaborate with partners to deploy more supercharging piles, facilitating the development of charging infrastructure. This will help address the current inadequacies in electric vehicle charging facilities and promote the wider adoption of electric vehicles.
