Shanghai Automotive Group Unveils Patent for Hydrogen Transport Vehicle Fire Safety System

Shanghai

Shanghai Automotive Group has announced a patent for a fire protection system and method for hydrogen transport vehicles. This invention, published on March 25, 2025, aims to address safety issues during the transportation of hydrogen by implementing remote monitoring and emergency response via a cloud platform.

The patent abstract reveals that the invention involves a fire protection system and method specifically for hydrogen transport vehicles. It encompasses vehicle transportation technology, including a cloud platform, an online monitoring unit, a detection unit, and a fire protection unit. The detection unit monitors the hydrogen concentration within the container and relays this information to the online monitoring unit. The online monitoring unit, in turn, sends the received hydrogen concentration data to the cloud platform. If the cloud platform detects that the hydrogen concentration exceeds a preset threshold, it transmits an alert signal to the fire protection system, which then activates control commands accordingly. The fire protection unit responds to these commands by discharging any leaked hydrogen from the gas cylinders within the container.

This innovative approach allows for real-time monitoring of potential leakage hazards via the cloud platform, triggering emergency fire response measures swiftly, even while the vehicle is in transit, thereby ensuring the safety of both the vehicle and its personnel.
