Beijing Enterprises Group Unveils Nine Major Tech Innovations for Urban Sustainability and Smart Cities

Beijing Enterprises Group has announced nine significant technological innovations in urban environmental protection and smart cities during the 2025 Zhongguancun Forum held on March 30, 2025. The conference, organized by Beijing Enterprises Group, focused on the theme of “Empowering Urban Sustainability with Technology” and aimed at integrating technological and industrial innovation to develop new productive forces.

During the morning session, Academician Chen Xuedong from the Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered a keynote speech titled “Advancements in Hydrogen Energy Storage and Transportation Equipment Technology,” discussing urban energy transition and the utilization of hydrogen and other new energy sources. Academician Zhang Yuqun from the Chinese Academy of Sciences also presented on the topic “Scientific Instruments Supporting Life Science Research—Development and Application of Exosome Preparation Instruments,” highlighting the deep integration of biotechnology and public health.

The conference highlighted nine major technological achievements across various fields, including urban energy, environmental protection, municipal facilities, high-end equipment, and smart cities. These innovations include:

  • The key technologies and equipment for ensuring the safe operation of smart gas pipeline networks, safeguarding urban operational safety.
  • Key technologies and engineering applications for hydrogen-blended natural gas delivery, paving a new path for low-carbon urban energy transformation.
  • The “Smart Water Dual-Engine” intelligent solution, which uses AI to elevate water management into a new era of smart technology.

These advancements are expected to drive industrial transformation and upgrade, resulting in significant economic and social benefits.

During the event, Beijing Enterprises Group signed a strategic agreement with Beijing University of Technology to collaboratively cultivate technological talent and build a productive research ecosystem. Additionally, companies under Beijing Enterprises Group signed strategic agreements with relevant organizations to focus on innovation platform development, industrial chain collaboration, engineering project applications, and capital support for innovative enterprises.

The conference also unveiled major application scenarios, including:

  • A collaborative intelligent inspection system combining unmanned vehicles and inspection robots for gas safety.
  • A long-term solution for the rehabilitation of hazardous pipelines through internal lining repair.
  • Resilience enhancement technology for municipal infrastructure in megacities.
  • An intelligent combustion control system for high-proportion blended burning of ICC.

These examples showcase the close connection between technological innovation and practical applications, effectively promoting the transformation of scientific achievements into productive forces that contribute to urban sustainability.

In the afternoon session, distinguished academicians and experts, including Academicians Peng Suping and Zhang Laibin, discussed the development of technologies in urban energy fields, focusing on hydrogen energy and fuel cell advancements, as well as safety technologies for urban gas pipeline networks. Business leaders shared practical experiences related to the intelligent upgrading of urban gas companies and the establishment of new energy systems.

During the industry exchange segment, experts and leaders from the Gas Group, Peking University Energy Research Institute, China National Petroleum Corporation, Shenzhen Gas, and Huaneng Smart Energy engaged in extensive dialogues centered on the forum’s theme of “Urban Energy Transformation and Sustainable Development,” fostering industry growth through collaboration.
