On the evening of April 1, several new energy vehicle companies released their sales figures for March 2025. The financial investment reporters noted that BYD exceeded 1 million units in quarterly sales, marking a 60% year-on-year increase. Similarly, Geely and Xpeng also reported significant sales growth compared to the previous year.
According to Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association, the implementation of various policies to promote automobile consumption and the relatively strong market performance in the first quarter of 2025 have led to a substantial upward revision of the association’s forecast for the Chinese automobile market. The wholesale sales of new energy vehicles are now projected to exceed 16 million units, up from the previous estimate of 15.7 million.
BYD Achieves Record Sales
BYD’s announcement revealed that its sales of new energy vehicles in March reached 377,400 units, reflecting a month-on-month increase of 16.9% and a year-on-year increase of 24.78%. By the end of March 2025, the company’s total sales for the year had reached 1,000,800 units, a year-on-year growth of 59.81%. In March, BYD also achieved overseas sales of 72,700 units, accounting for nearly 20% of its total monthly sales.
During the China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Meeting Forum on March 29, Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, noted that while the transition to electric vehicles has been gradual, the pace of transformation in automotive intelligence is accelerating. He emphasized that moving forward, the industry should focus on high-level intelligent driving to promote high-quality development.
Geely and Other Companies Report Strong Growth
Geely also shared its March sales data, reporting total vehicle sales of 232,200, a 54% increase year-on-year, with new energy vehicle sales reaching 119,700, up 167% compared to the previous year and 22% month-on-month. Breaking down by brand, Geely Galaxy sold 90,000 units in March, reflecting a staggering 290% increase; Zeekr sold 15,400 units, a 19% growth; and Lynk & Co recorded 25,300 units, up 29%. For the first three months, Geely’s cumulative new energy vehicle sales reached 339,200, a 135% increase.
According to SAIC Motor’s production and sales report for March 2025, the company sold 125,700 new energy vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 48.22%. Cumulatively, the sales for the year reached 273,000, up 29.89%. Meanwhile, Changan surpassed 80,000 new energy vehicle sales, a 48.9% increase year-on-year, and a 101.8% increase month-on-month. GAC Aion reported global sales of 34,100 units in March, up 4.8% year-on-year and 63.4% month-on-month.
Xpeng and Li Auto Deliveries Surge
In March 2025, Li Auto delivered 36,700 new vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 26.5%. For the first quarter, total deliveries reached 92,900, up 15.5%. Li Xiang, Chairman and CEO of Li Auto, stated, “Open-source is an important way to drive technological innovation. We announced at the Zhongguancun Forum that our self-developed automobile operating system, Liang Star OS, will be made open-source, marking our position as the world’s first open-source smart car operating system company.” He also mentioned that the Li L Series is approaching its 1 millionth delivery milestone, with the updated Li MEGA Ultra smart driving version now available for pre-order on their website.
Leap Motor reported a delivery of 37,100 vehicles in March, reflecting over a 154% year-on-year increase, with a total of 87,600 units sold in the first quarter. The flagship model, the Leap C16, achieved over 55,000 deliveries. On March 10, Leap Motor held a press conference to announce the LEAP 3.5 technology and the pre-sale of the B10, which is set to launch on April 10 at a price starting from 120,000 yuan.
Xpeng reported delivering 33,200 new vehicles in March, marking a 268% increase and maintaining a delivery volume of over 30,000 units for five consecutive months. In total, Xpeng delivered 94,000 new vehicles in the first quarter, a 331% year-on-year increase and a 2.7% increase month-on-month. During their spring launch event on March 13, Xpeng introduced the 2025 models of the Xpeng G6 and Xpeng G9, both equipped with 5C supercharging AI batteries and Turing AI driving technology.
NIO delivered 15,000 new cars in March, a 26.7% increase year-on-year, with the NIO brand contributing 10,200 units and the Ladao brand contributing 4,820 units. In the first quarter, NIO delivered 42,100 new vehicles, up 40.1% year-on-year. The NIO ET9, an intelligent electric flagship sedan, officially began nationwide deliveries on March 29, and the expected launch of the Firefly model is set for April.
Xiaomi Auto announced on April 1 that it delivered over 29,000 vehicles in March 2024. The company is making steady progress in enhancing its production capacity and is confident in achieving its annual delivery target of 350,000 units. They expressed gratitude for the support and trust from their customers.
