Mercedes-Benz is set to launch its next-generation hydrogen fuel cell trucks by the end of next year, according to Daimler Trucks. The company has introduced the first prototypes of these trucks and has conducted a 14-day testing program in the Simplon Pass in Switzerland. The tests included various components such as the fuel cell, high-voltage battery, electric drive axle, hydrogen storage system, and thermal management.

Two Mercedes-Benz GenH2 hydrogen fuel cell prototypes were tested under challenging conditions, reaching altitudes over 2,000 meters and ascending from a height of 600 meters. The trucks, with a total weight of 40 tons, covered a distance of 6,500 kilometers and achieved an elevation gain of 83,000 meters.

The assembly of the next-generation fuel cell trucks is planned to take place at the Wörth plant, with the expectation that they will be operational in customer fleets by the end of 2026.
