China’s Latest Vehicle Valuation Report: Domestic Electric Vehicles Surpass Japanese Gasoline Cars in Stability

Chinas

China’s latest valuation report reveals that domestically produced electric vehicles (EVs) demonstrate a significant advantage over traditional gasoline cars in terms of value retention. According to the report released by the China Automotive Research Association, the valuation metrics for electric vehicles are considerably higher than those for gasoline vehicles.

As of April 1, 2025, the report indicates that the valuation for domestic electric sedans has reached a high point. This valuation reflects the current trends in the market, especially as the electric vehicle sector continues to expand amidst increasing competition and fluctuating prices.

The valuation report highlights that this year, the electric vehicle market will face challenges due to price adjustments and market dynamics. The competition among new car prices is expected to intensify, leading to further fluctuations in the valuation metrics for electric vehicles.

Currently, the valuation for electric vehicles is notably higher compared to gasoline vehicles, with the valuation for MPVs, mid-sized cars, and mid-sized SUVs at 59%, 55.8%, and 55.4%, respectively. In contrast, compact cars, small SUVs, and mid-sized SUVs have lower valuation metrics, with figures below 51%. Among these, compact cars have the lowest valuation retention at 48.8%.

The ongoing trends suggest a decline in the demand for new vehicles, which directly impacts the valuation metrics for electric vehicles. The need for cost-effective options is becoming more pronounced, particularly among consumers seeking to purchase new electric vehicles.

Meanwhile, the valuation metrics for traditional gasoline vehicles exhibit stability, with figures for mainstream models at 57.3% and 56.3%, showing slight increases of 0.7% and 1.2%, respectively. This stability indicates that consumers still have confidence in gasoline models despite the growth of the electric vehicle market.

Furthermore, the valuation metrics for hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles are reported at 47% and 45.2%, respectively. The hybrid vehicles show a stable valuation, primarily driven by higher-end models in the market.

In conclusion, the latest valuation report underscores the growing importance of electric vehicles in the automotive market, as they continue to outperform traditional gasoline vehicles in value retention. As the market evolves, it will be essential for manufacturers and consumers to adapt to the changing landscape of vehicle valuation.
