1.6 million kilowatts! Shangneng Electric is using photovoltaic technology to combat desertification and restore green water and mountains.
On April 2, 2025, the 1.6 million kilowatt solar energy storage and ecological restoration project in Dengkou County, Inner Mongolia, which is supplied by Shangneng Electric, was officially connected to the grid. Underneath the vast photovoltaic blue ocean, new greenery quietly breaks through the soil, embarking on a journey towards green energy in the early spring of the northern frontier.
Efficient Inverters Powering New Energy
Located in the northwestern part of Inner Mongolia, this project has a planned capacity of 1.6 million kilowatts. It utilizes a “block generation, centralized grid connection” approach to ensure stable electricity output and efficient utilization. The project employs Shangneng Electric’s string inverter solution, with 2,671 units of 320kW string inverters distributed across 44,600 acres. The products are equipped with I-V curve diagnostic technology for easy real-time monitoring over long distances, and the PID recovery and protection features ensure safe and reliable long-term operation. Notably, the 320kW string inverters used in this project meet the latest national standard GB/T 19964-2024, ensuring excellent operational adaptability and fault ride-through capability, continuously safeguarding grid security.
Integrated “Photovoltaic Desertification Control”
This project creates a green development model that integrates “photovoltaic technology, sand fixation, and planting.” Through a three-dimensional development system of “power generation on top, sand fixation below, and planting in between,” it achieves a synergistic development of clean energy production and ecological restoration. The photovoltaic arrays not only provide green electricity but also create a unique microenvironment in the shaded areas beneath them, making large-scale planting of sand-fixing vegetation possible. This intensive space utilization model effectively curbs wind and sand erosion while fostering soil improvement through vegetation cultivation, offering a sustainable solution for desert ecosystem restoration. Upon commencement of operations, the project is expected to generate approximately 3.155 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, with an annual revenue of up to 725 million yuan, effectively enhancing both ecological benefits and energy output.
As the spring breeze spreads new greenery, the harmonious interplay of solar energy storage and ecological preservation resonates like a melody, heralding the revitalization of the northern frontier. Shangneng Electric will continue to embrace energy transformation with a focus on technological innovation and customer value, writing a new chapter in sustainable development and contributing wisdom and strength to building a shared future for humanity.
