Sa. Batbold: Promotion of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in Road Transportation

Ulaanbaatar, April 4, 2025 – The Ministry of Transport held a public-private partnership forum titled “NEXUS Green Solutions” on April 3. During the event, experts unanimously highlighted the need for phased construction of electric vehicle charging stations along international and national highways, as well as the implementation of maintenance and technical control for electric vehicles. They also discussed the urgent need to establish standards and procedures for the control and regulation of electric vehicles, along with addressing the issues of waste batteries and battery recycling.

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Sa. Batbold, stated, “The transport sector must support the use of gas and electric vehicles. A study conducted by a specialized organization in 2019 examined waste generated by motor vehicles. Research on improving the control system for toxic gas emissions from motor vehicle engines is set to take place from 2022 to 2024 and has been discussed and accepted by the Scientific and Technical Committee. To make informed decisions based on the aforementioned studies and reports, collaboration with government and private sector organizations is essential.”

In the past 30 years, the frequency of natural disasters has tripled. Over a decade, insurance costs related to climate change have increased eightfold, while non-insured costs have risen sevenfold. Global warming, driven by pollution and excessive carbon emissions, is a root cause of natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes, with projections indicating a potential 25% decline in global GDP by 2100. The Paris Agreement marks a significant shift for policymakers, aiming for sustainable green growth to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat global warming, rather than solely focusing on economic growth.

A total of 196 countries have joined the Paris Agreement, with the primary goal of limiting global warming to below 1.5 degrees Celsius in the 21st century. For Mongolia, the long-term development policy, Vision-2050, clearly reflects these issues. For instance, Section 6.4 of the “Green Development” goal aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in energy, agriculture, construction, transportation, industry, and waste management while increasing carbon absorption. In this context, the Ministry of Transport plans to collaborate with MMS Engineering to implement the “NEXUS NET ZERO” project.
