The 8th International Conference on Carbon Neutrality Roadmap Held at CityU

Recently, City University of Hong Kong (CityU) co-hosted the 8th International Conference on Carbon Neutrality Roadmap in collaboration with the Hong Kong Institute of Energy. This event featured industry leaders from both local and international backgrounds sharing insights and advancements in cutting-edge technologies, with the goal of promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange.

As a key event during the 2025 International Energy Week, the conference focused on renewable energy, green hydrogen, carbon capture, and policy transformation. In response to the Hong Kong Climate Action Blueprint 2050 launched by the Hong Kong SAR Government in October 2021, this year’s conference delved into critical topics such as net-zero carbon power generation technologies, green transportation technologies, waste-to-energy solutions, and advanced disruptive technologies, all aimed at addressing the significant challenges of achieving carbon neutrality.

President Way Kuo emphasized CityU’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and environmental protection, which has gained widespread recognition globally. In his welcome address, President Kuo stated, “The College of Energy and Environment at CityU is dedicated to nurturing future leaders in the energy and environment sectors to tackle the urgent challenge of rapid decarbonization. In the 2024 ShanghaiRanking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities, CityU ranked first in Hong Kong and ninth globally in energy science and engineering, reflecting our contributions in this field.”

Mr. Andy Brown, OBE, FEI, Chairman of the Energy Institute, delivered a keynote speech via video link, stating that climate change is no longer a scientific prediction but an urgent issue that requires multilateral action and leadership. He highlighted the importance of guiding the global energy transition.

The conference invited renowned industry experts from both local and international arenas to share their insights and advancements in cutting-edge technologies, aiming to accelerate sustainable energy solutions in Hong Kong and around the world. It addressed the latest developments in hydrogen and clean energy technologies, safety measures, and the infrastructure requirements necessary to achieve carbon neutrality. Additionally, it facilitated academic and professional exchanges on carbon neutrality policies, technology development, applications, future challenges, and advancements.
