Demand Growth Driven by Policy Implementation Window: Solar Silicon Wafer and Module Prices on the Rise

As of early 2025, two new policies have accelerated the installation speed of distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, leading to an increase in the prices of solar silicon wafers and modules compared to the previous year, reversing the trend of continuous decline.

Amidst significant competition within the solar manufacturing sector, prices for solar silicon wafers and modules have finally stopped their downward trajectory and begun to rise. According to data from the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association’s Silicon Branch, prices for silicon wafers experienced a slight uptick during the week of March 7 to March 13, 2025. The average transaction price for N-type G12R monocrystalline silicon wafers (measuring 182 x 210 mm/130 microns) was recorded at 1.38 yuan per piece, reflecting a week-on-week increase of 2.74%.

In terms of module pricing, data from solar consulting firm InfoLink Consulting shows that the average spot price for modules in distributed solar projects rose from 0.69 yuan per watt on February 13 to 0.73 yuan per watt by March 13, marking an approximate month-on-month increase of 6%. This stands in stark contrast to the previous two years when, due to severe overcapacity, module prices experienced a continuous decline of around 60%.
