China’s Ministry of Construction has initiated a new strategy to promote the transition to green energy in the Yangtze River Delta region. This announcement was made on March 26, 2025. According to the Ministry of Construction, the upcoming conference titled “Promoting Green Energy in the Yangtze River Delta, Building a Sustainable Energy Future” will focus on the development of renewable energy sources.
China aims to enhance its renewable energy capacity through innovative technologies and international collaboration, facilitating a shift towards a greener energy structure. By March 25, 2025, the conference will present strategies to advance green energy in the region, highlighting the importance of renewable energy in China’s energy landscape.
As of 2023, China’s renewable energy capacity has reached 473 gigawatts, accounting for 69% of the nation’s total energy output, with a significant portion contributed by hydropower. From 2013 to 2023, electricity consumption in China has grown at an annual average rate of 4.5%, while the national average has been 2.5%. Renewable energy now represents 52% of the total energy consumption in China, establishing a strong foundation for the nation’s energy diversification efforts.
Despite advancements in renewable energy, there are significant challenges ahead, particularly concerning carbon reduction strategies. The Ministry emphasized the need for continuous development and innovation to maintain progress in transitioning to green energy.
