From March 25 to 28, the 2025 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference took place in Boao, Hainan, under the theme “Creating a Future for Asia Amidst Global Changes.” This event brought together political and business leaders, as well as scholars from dozens of countries to exchange ideas and provide solutions, contributing “Boao wisdom” for the development of Asia and the world.
Zhong Baoshen, Chairman of LONGi Green Energy, was invited to attend the China-Australia Entrepreneurs Dialogue at the forum. He engaged in discussions with fellow attendees on topics such as technological innovation, international cooperation, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards.
Strengthening Technological R&D Cooperation to Facilitate Global Energy Transition
Having participated in the China-Australia Entrepreneurs Dialogue for the third time, Zhong emphasized that technological innovation is the core driving force for the sustainable development of the photovoltaic (PV) industry. LONGi is committed to deepening technological cooperation in clean energy between China and Australia, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance energy efficiency and drive industry transformation.
In the context of deep decarbonization, relying solely on electricity will not meet all energy demands. Therefore, LONGi is expanding into green hydrogen and green alcohol businesses, converting low-cost clean electricity into green liquid and gaseous energy. Over the years, LONGi has continuously strengthened joint R&D with Australian universities, research institutions, and companies, exploring more efficient and sustainable photovoltaic technologies. Furthermore, LONGi actively participates in green hydrogen technology development, promoting PV hydrogen production solutions to support Australia’s renewable energy exports and domestic industrial decarbonization.
LONGi has set multiple world records acknowledged by Professor Martin Green of the University of New South Wales, known as the “Father of Solar Energy,” who included them in his Solar Cell Efficiency Record List. LONGi entered the Australian market in 2017, and in 2019 established its Australian subsidiary in Sydney, forming a local team ready to serve Australian clients across various sectors, including residential, commercial, and large-scale ground-mounted power plants. To date, LONGi has achieved product deliveries totaling 4.5 GW in Australia, supplying the country’s largest single power station project and holding the largest market share in Western Australia.
Deepening Market Presence in Australia to Achieve Carbon Neutrality
The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which officially came into effect in 2022, is the largest high-quality free trade agreement covering the widest geographic area and benefiting the most people. It aims to foster mutually beneficial economic partnerships among member countries, promoting regional trade and investment growth, and injecting robust momentum into an open and inclusive global economy.
In June 2024, China and Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen cooperation in implementing the free trade agreement, which provides more favorable investment and service trade conditions for the clean energy industry, including photovoltaic technology. Australia is rich in solar energy resources, and LONGi is supporting local photovoltaic power stations and distributed solar markets with efficient components and BIPV (Building-Integrated Photovoltaics) products, contributing to Australia’s goal of achieving 82% renewable energy by 2030.
LONGi embraces the open economic environment brought by RCEP and will fully utilize the trade facilitation it provides to optimize global supply chains, deepen its market presence in Australia, and collaboratively promote the achievement of carbon neutrality with local enterprises.
Establishing Unified ESG Standards to Promote High-Quality Corporate Development
As the global climate crisis intensifies, practicing sustainable development and adhering to ESG principles have become essential for the high-quality globalization of enterprises. Zhong believes that ESG is not only a compliance requirement but also a critical component of a company’s long-term competitiveness. LONGi places great importance on the standardization of ESG and views it as key to deepening cooperation between China and Australia and promoting the sustainable development of the photovoltaic industry.
For many years, LONGi has actively responded to the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and has joined the United Nations Global Compact. It is the first Chinese company to simultaneously join four climate initiatives: RE100, EP100, EV100, and SBTi. As a leading global solar technology company, LONGi promotes green manufacturing to reduce the carbon footprint of the photovoltaic supply chain, providing more environmentally friendly products for Australia’s energy transition.
In recent years, LONGi has proposed the sustainable development goal of “providing affordable clean energy for everyone” and the energy equity concept of “harmony in diversity through light.” This commitment reflects LONGi’s approach to business, which balances social, environmental, and stakeholder needs while achieving commercial value, integrating sustainable development principles into its strategies and operations.
