Zero Carbon Counties! Shangneng Electric Unlocks the “Golden Business Code” for Independent Energy Storage
Located by the Huai River in Jinhu, Jiangsu, a new chapter in green development is being written with new energy. The 150MW/300MWh energy storage station in Jinhu has been operating stably for nearly six months, becoming a benchmark project for the new power system in the Yangtze River Delta. Shangneng Electric has empowered the efficient operation of the station through innovative technology, injecting strong momentum into the energy transition in Jiangsu.
The project is situated in the northern part of Yingtu Town, within the Baoying Farm. It employs Shangneng Electric’s 5MW centralized conversion and boosting integrated machine, formed by paralleling four 1250kW centralized energy storage converters (PCS). The battery cabin features an innovative “6 clusters to one bus” dual-branch architecture, compatible with the new generation of Shangneng Electric’s 1250kW modular PCS. Compared to the common 12-cluster bus schemes on the market, this design reduces the number of parallel clusters on the DC side by half, significantly lowering the risk of parallel circulating currents by 50%. This enhancement increases the system’s usable capacity by 3%, achieving efficient energy utilization and improving the economic viability of the energy storage system.
As a benchmark independent energy storage station in East China, the project employs a threefold revenue model of “capacity leasing + auxiliary services + peak-valley arbitrage” to realize a win-win situation for both economic and social value, thus unlocking the “golden business code” for independent energy storage. After the project commenced operations, the annual average discharge capacity is expected to be 480,000 kilowatt-hours, saving 160 tons of standard coal consumption annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 425 tons per year. This contributes to Jinhu’s goal of establishing a “zero carbon” county-level autonomous demonstration area and enhances the reliability and flexible adjustment capabilities of the Northern Jiangsu power grid.
