Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Forum: Discussing “Artificial Intelligence as a Driving Force Behind Carbon Emission Reduction” – Finance – China Industry Network

The Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Forum was held in Beijing on March 28, 2025. This event was organized by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the European Union’s Commission, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and eight other international experts from various fields. The main theme of the forum was “Artificial Intelligence as a Driving Force Behind Carbon Emission Reduction,” which aimed to explore the role of AI technologies in driving energy systems and industrial processes towards carbon reduction goals.

The forum emphasized the importance of achieving a “carbon peak” – a critical objective to be realized through enhanced AI applications. The discussions included how AI can optimize energy consumption and improve industrial processes, contributing to the broader goal of carbon neutrality.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Energy Administration led the organization of this forum, showcasing the collaboration between scientific research and government policy in addressing climate change. The forum featured significant contributions from leading experts, including Academician Huang Xuan from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician Li Ming from the National Energy Administration.

Academician Huang highlighted the need for deep integration of AI in energy production and management processes, asserting that this technology would play a pivotal role in enhancing energy efficiency and supporting sustainable development. The discussions focused on the urgency of integrating AI to accelerate carbon reduction efforts and promote green energy transitions.

In the future, the National Energy Administration plans to promote policies that facilitate the development of AI technologies in energy sectors, enhancing their role in achieving carbon neutrality. These initiatives will include the establishment of new frameworks and standards that govern the use of AI in energy systems.

Experts at the forum expressed optimism about the potential for AI to revolutionize energy systems and contribute to significant carbon reductions. They emphasized that the collaboration between AI advancements and energy management practices will be crucial in meeting the carbon neutrality goals set by the international community.

The forum concluded with a commitment to deepen collaboration across various sectors to drive innovation and promote the sustainable use of energy resources. This initiative reflects a strong resolve to integrate AI technologies in the global fight against climate change.
