Introduction

Since its founding, DJI has consistently pushed the boundaries of technology. Starting with drone systems, the company has gradually developed a diverse product matrix that includes aerial imaging and handheld stabilization systems, establishing itself as a leader in the global drone and smart imaging device market. With deep expertise in battery technology, particularly in consumer drones and agricultural protection machines, DJI has made significant advancements in battery performance and safety. In 2023, DJI officially launched the DJI Power series of outdoor power supplies, introducing the DJI Power 1000 and DJI Power 500, marking its entry into the mobile energy storage sector.

Recently, DJI unveiled the all-new DJI Power 2000, a versatile outdoor power supply featuring a large capacity of 2 kWh and a compact design. It supports a stable output of 3000 watts and can charge to 80% in just 45 minutes using AC power, while also supporting solar and car fast charging. The unit can be expanded to a maximum of 22 kWh and includes a board-level nano-coating for added protection. Additionally, it supports app-based remote control. Let’s explore the actual experience and performance of this outdoor power supply.

Unboxing and Overview

The DJI POWER 2000 comes in a durable, kraft paper box featuring a product thumbnail and the name “DJI POWER 2000” on the front. Upon opening, the internal components are cushioned with foam and come with a manual, warranty card, and other paperwork.

Once the foam is removed, the outdoor power supply is revealed, also protected by foam and a plastic bag to prevent scratches. The package includes the power supply, a high-capacity AC power cable, and the manual.

The DJI POWER 2000 maintains a family color scheme of black and light gray, constructed from flame-retardant materials with a high-strength structural design capable of withstanding static loads of up to one ton, making it suitable for harsh environments. The front panel features a variety of charging and discharging ports, along with a colorful digital display. With its 2 kWh capacity and maximum 3000W output, it meets diverse power needs.

On the left side of the front panel, there are three 3+2 new national standard combination sockets and a 16A strong power socket, providing a maximum output of 3000W. The sockets are equipped with safety doors to ensure electrical safety and have independent AC output control switches with indicator lights. The central display shows remaining battery capacity, power output, usage duration, input power, and required charging time, giving users real-time insights into the power status. Below, there are four USB-C ports supporting 140W and 65W respectively.

The right side contains an AC input interface and two SDC ports, both protected with dust and moisture covers, along with four USB-A ports with eye-catching orange rubber cores, supporting up to 24W. The AC input supports both standard and fast charging modes, with the latter allowing for rapid recharging to alleviate power anxiety.

The two SDC ports enable the power supply to be charged through a vehicle or solar panels, expanding its usability across various scenarios. Additionally, it can significantly broaden its application by using appropriate SDC fast charging cables (sold separately) to charge DJI aircraft batteries quickly.

The back of the unit prominently displays the DJI logo, and the sides are equipped with ventilation openings with grilles and dust nets for effective heat dissipation. Each side also features two “1/4” threaded holes for mounting. The top includes integrated handles for easier mobility by a single person.

Complementing the outdoor power supply is the DJI Power Expansion Battery 2000, designed to match its aesthetics. By connecting the two with a cable, they form an energy storage system of approximately 4 kWh. The digital display on the outdoor power supply shows the number of expansion batteries connected.

The measurements of the DJI POWER 2000 are as follows: the length between the two handles is about 44 cm, the width is approximately 22 cm, the height is around 23 cm, and the weight is about 21.8 kg.

Solar Charging

The DJI POWER 2000 also introduces solar charging capabilities. Using a solar panel connection module, it can connect up to three solar panels, specifically the PORTABLE 200W foldable solar panel included in the package. Aside from the module itself, the package includes three long screws, three short screws, a metal bracket, and an external hex screwdriver.

The connection module is rectangular, coated with a durable metal paint finish, and features an SDC input port for easy attachment to the outdoor power supply. It includes three XT60 ports, allowing for the connection of up to three solar panels. Users can secure the module to the side of the power supply using the long screws with the provided tools. Once connected, users can link the solar panels through the XT60 interface. Under optimal sunlight, it supports a maximum charging capacity of 200W.

Mobile Connectivity

Unlike the DJI POWER 1000, the POWER 2000 features an integrated mobile wireless module, enabling seamless connectivity with smartphones without the need for an external module. After pairing, users can access the main interface, which is divided into input and output sections. The input section displays current battery levels, remaining charging time, total input power, and charging power for each port. The output section shows current battery levels, remaining usable time, total output power, and output power for each port, along with the ability to turn the AC ports on or off. Settings allow for device information, firmware updates, and charge/discharge configurations.

AC Charging

The DJI POWER 2000 offers three charging methods, with AC power being the most common. Using the original AC charging cable, the device charges at around 1200W in slow charge mode and up to 2200W in fast charge mode.

UPS Functionality

This outdoor power supply features a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) function, providing reliable power support for various emergency scenarios. When plugged into AC power while supplying power to devices, it defaults to UPS mode. In the event of a power outage, it can switch quickly to power supply mode, and when AC power is restored, it returns to charging mode in just 0.01 seconds. In testing, the display showed input power at 2199W and output at 111W. After unplugging the charging cable, a computer continued to operate normally.

Camping Applications

The primary application for this outdoor power supply is in outdoor settings. The DJI POWER 2000 can power various appliances, making it a popular choice for long-distance road trips where the conveniences of urban life are taken outdoors. It provides ample capacity and power for activities such as making coffee with an AC coffee machine, where it recorded a power output of 978W. It is also capable of powering high-wattage appliances like electric cookers and water kettles, achieving peak outputs of around 1699W.

For those looking to cook outdoors, the POWER 2000 can easily support electric cookers, allowing users to prepare meals like stir-fries, hot pots, and soups, with display readings reaching 2137W. With a rated discharge capacity of 3000W, the DJI POWER 2000 can handle multiple devices simultaneously without issue, as evidenced by total power usage readings of 3194W.

Digital Devices

The front panel of the DJI POWER 2000 includes USB-C1/C2 ports supporting 140W and USB-C3/C4 ports supporting 65W. The USB-A ports provide 24W each, making it suitable for charging laptops, smartphones, and other devices. The 140W ports can charge higher-power devices like laptops and game consoles, as well as DJI drones, utilizing the exclusive fast charging ecosystem of the DJI Power series. For instance, it can recharge the Air3 and Mavic3 series drones in about half an hour.

USB Port Testing

Compatibility testing reveals that the USB ports can effectively charge a wide range of devices. The USB-C1 port supports various fast charging protocols, including QC3.0, FCP, AFC, PD3.1, PPS, and others, with fixed voltage support ranging from 5V to 28V. Similar results are observed for the USB-C3 port, indicating robust compatibility across devices.

In testing, the USB-A ports also performed well, successfully charging multiple devices at varying power levels. The highest charging power recorded was from the iQOO 13 at 16.62W, while other devices generally fell within the 9W to 7W power range.

Ripple Testing

Ripple testing showed that the highest peak-to-peak ripple value occurred at the 9V0A setting, measuring 20mVp-p, while the lowest was at the 20V0A and 12V0A settings, both at 17.6mVp-p.

Under load testing, the highest ripple values were recorded at 20V5A and 9V3A, both measuring 21.6mVp-p, while the lowest was at 5V3A with a ripple of 18.4mVp-p.

Charging Performance Testing

The DJI POWER 2000 supports 220V AC input charging at 2200W. In fast charge mode, using the original high-power charging cable, the test data indicated that charging reached 50% in 30 minutes and 80% in 48 minutes, taking a total of 72 minutes to fully charge, aligning with the official claim of a maximum charging time of 75 minutes from zero to full.

AC Output Performance Testing

In load testing, the outdoor power supply’s AC module was subjected to a continuous output of 2200W until the battery was exhausted. The test results showed that at 2200W, the power supply lasted for 24 minutes, with 50% battery remaining at 38 minutes and 20% remaining at 48 minutes before depletion.

Temperature Testing

After 30 minutes of continuous output at 2200W in AC mode at a room temperature of 25±2°C, the maximum temperature recorded at the intake was about 36.5°C, while the body temperature was around 28.5°C. The maximum temperature at the exhaust was approximately 46.8°C. This performance is attributed to the extensive heat dissipation design, ensuring excellent thermal management even under high power output.

Conclusion

The DJI POWER 2000 outdoor power supply, with its 2048Wh capacity and 3000W high power discharge, provides comprehensive power support for users.
